About Grand Café

In 1874 Grand Café opened its doors. Back then, Oslo was called Kristiania. This is where it all started. The café was the home of, among others, Henrik Ibsen, Roald Amundsen, Knut Hamsun, Gustav Vigeland and Fridtjof Nansen in addition to a number of other 'Kristiania bohemians'. Now a new era has begun. A restaurant and wine cellar. The new Grand Café has become a restaurant with a special atmosphere. The kitchen is open with access to the chefs who prepare food with ingredients mainly from the Nordic countries, but with inspiration from other parts of the world. The decorative ceilings of Lars Backer have been unveiled and recreated, the original Thonet chairs have been renovated and the three famous Krohg paintings have been preserved.

It is with pride that we at Grand Café now welcome new and old guests. We look forward to being able to take part in the next 100 years and create new history.
